Overnight Oatmeal Review

So I’m not a big fan of oat meal, steel cut or not. It’s not that I haven’t had amazing oatmeal before, it’s more of a texture thing. The texture of oatmeal, depending on how I’m feeling, kinda grosses me out. I want oatmeal to be my thing, I want to always want to WANT it. It’s good for you, healthily and hearty.

This was a pretty simple recipe, we just got a slow cooker, and I wanted to try it out. Problem I didn’t have “normal” steel cut oats, I had the ones that you can take a pack to work and stick it in the microwave.

I only had 4 packs left and was looking for a reason to use these up. They were gross and bland, I didn’t care for it. I figured this recipe might kick it up a notch. So I picked up some dried fruit from the fruit market down the street.

I wasn’t feeling well the next day, so I didn’t partake in the meal, but Tom did. His thoughts were that it was bland and not sweet enough. But he was a good sport and finished this bowl before work.

After I felt better, I gave it a try. To me it seemed like a base recipe, and that you would need to add more to it. So I added light agave, strawberry jam, and some chia seeds. It ended up being a bit to sweet, but I finished it. Though it was a little hard because of the texture thing.

I do feel this is a good base for oatmeal. It was really nice to have sometime set in the morning to eat. I just need to learn how to dress it up so that I like it.

As Tom would say “Cooking is a science” and maybe one day we’ll get the science of oatmeal right. Happy Cooking!

Here's some other Oatmeal Recipes that I've made
