Here’s The Update on My Life

So as I’ve mentioned in some later posts, I have been super busy! Life is just finally settling down (again), and I’m excited to tell you all about it! Finally….

To make things easier, I’ll start from the top. In 2012, I graduated college and moved back to Michigan. I didn’t end up getting a job in my field, but I did get a job that paid the bills. I was a Customer Service Agent at a local trucking company. I got to go to a office, and dress up, and I had my own desk. And in the end… I absolutely hated it.

There was nothing worse then dressing up, just to get yelled at and degraded. But after about 2 years of that, I got promoted! To Marketing Coordinator! I was super excited to use my skills, and to see what I could do for the company. I was also really interested to learn more about being a marketing coordinator. But I was wrong…. sooo wrong…

This face says it all......
There wasn’t really a marketing team… I worked with the sales department. I mostly printed flyers and packaged flyers and mailed boxes. I never learned anything about being a coordinator, and most of my projects were just updating flyers. If I was lucky enough to get a big project, I won’t be working on it for long. It was put on hold for months and months, then out of no where they would want it to be worked on again… only for it to be put on hold the next week.

Sadly about a year and some months in that position, I was laid off. That’s when I learned what a “At-Will Employer” is…

Even tho I didn’t enjoy being a Marketing Coordinator, I was devastated. I didn’t cry or anything when they were talking to me, if anything I was pissed because it was a big surprise. It was like driving into a wall at full speed in slow motion. I could see everything happening, but I couldn’t do anything to stop it. And I was confused and a little scared.

I went to school for art and yet I hated this job. I hated sitting at a desk for 8 hours and designing things that were beyond my interest. I did try to find art type jobs, but there wasn’t a lot around or any that I qualified for (still applied anyway).

But I did notice another type of job in high demand around here, and it was something I was interested in. So I got in on a grant for the local community college and started my crazy 3 months going back to college. Because I can’t get enough of school obviously. HAHA!

Now some of you may be asking “Well what did you go back for”?
I will give you some hints!

If you’re still wondering what I went back to school for I will tell you! I went back for CNC Lathe and Mill/Machinist! I grew up around big loud machines, but mostly all for wood working. So I got interested in it, but I never took full interest in it. The math was intimidating, I didn’t see any women(at the time), I wasn’t allowed to touch any of the buttons (which was discouraging). So to see this 3 month free certificate in front of me, was just something I couldn’t pass up. I knew I didn’t want to do retail, customer service, or fast food again. Plus I came to terms with the fact that I just like doing my own thing with art, and that maybe making a “real” job in it just isn’t for me (at this moment anyway).

While I was going to school, I got a part time job. Since I was getting unemployment I figured I could be picky on my short time employment. So I picked something interesting and fun, so I became a “Romance Specialist”. That was my title at this lingerie boutique I really wanted to work at. We sold lingerie, toys, games, dancer wear, and the like. I figured when I get older it’ll be a fun story to tell….and I think sex education is important and interesting!

So while I was working and going to school, I’ve been working on my small silly craft business. Check it out here — https://www.etsy.com/shop/WhimsicallyFree?ref=hdr_shop_menu

I’m thinking about changing the name, but I’m not sure yet.
But after 3 months I “graduated” with a certificate in CNC Lathe and Mill from Macomb
Community College.

And now I have a pretty good job! Full time and with benefits, but I’m still on my 90 day probation period. I can only hope I’m doing the best I can. I work 2 machines on the Pinion Line, I make a engine part for Chrysler, Dodge and some others. Do I know what that part is… no… I’m not a big car person. But I do know I’m getting the workout of my life! My arms are going to be so toned after a while. It is hard work, and I do get dirty and I stand all day. BUT I don’t have to dress up, time goes by faster, and I have about 6 different things I have to keep up with. I enjoy that I don’t need to look pretty to do my job. I really enjoy dressing up to go out with friends now. I just do my job, get dirty, and talk with everyone. There is also other women that work at the shop, which is good to see.

I honestly thought I was going to have to put up some many walls to be in a job like this. But the guys I work with are just normal guys. They can be a little nosey, and say things trying to be funny. But it’s nothing that I honestly haven’t dealt with before. I just throw it back at them and we all have a laugh and move on with our day. It’s a relief to see that things have changed in area’s like this.

So now that I’ve got a job again and I’m getting back on schedule, it’s time to get back to blogging again! Super excited for it. Things might still seem a little slow at first, but I hope to start speeding up soon.

See you around.
